MAS Tampa Annual Fundraising Banquet 2009
''Building Steps Toward the Future''
With the grace of Allah we have concluded another year of activities. We ask Allah to accept the good from it and forgive our shortcomings. Since we started 5 years ago our vision for the youth has been to develop strong God-conscious leaders through spirituality, activism, and personal development based on the principles and lessons from the life of our Beloved Prophet. We need your support to continue.
We plan our activities around promoting a balanced lifestyle for the youth. For example, to instill Islamic knowledge we hold weekly Islamic intensive study groups, weekly lectures, and invited national guest speakers. To encourage physical development we ran 3 seasons of sports leagues and hold the major annual national MAS Tampa MYathlon (formerly Olympics) sports competition with participation of around 1500 participants in 2008 and 2009. To promote activism we mentored our youth to lead the planning and execution of all these activities, from the annual conference to the Olympics to the guest tours; from Islamic education to outreach to political activism. Our successful Girls Scout program is a full spectrum of such development from a very young age. We are also proud to have mentored and encouraged our youth to work with all the other great Tampa Bay organizations including Islamic Masjids, CAIR, United Voices and Islamic schools.
Without your committed support our youth’s lives would be devoid of such positive Islamic direction and growth. This dedicated work needs every possible assistance, so we ask you to pledge support to MAS Tampa financially and through volunteering.
One said it takes a village to raise a child and it is true it takes our whole community to raise a Young Muslim Leader. MAS Tampa is at a stage where it can have -if we have your support- a full time Director to take this work to the next level and provide more quality programs to our youth and community. So far most of the work has been done by volunteers, and like any other organization a fulltime staff would make an immensely positive difference. With the help of national MAS Departments, namely the Islamic American University, MAS Freedom, MAS Media Foundation, MAS Services Corps, and MAS Youth, we are not lacking in ideas but rather lack resources. Please pledge a monthly withdrawal to support this important and necessary cause.
"Who is he that will lend Allah a goodly loan: then (Allah) will increase it manifold to his credit (in repaying), and he will have (besides) a good reward (i.e. paradise)" Al Qur'an 57:11
My Best Wishes to have happy and blessed years to come.
Amr Abouzied
President, MAS Tampa
